January Newsletter & Upcoming Courses
Welcome to our January Newsletter and Happy New Year!
Whether you are currently working with us or are planning on joining one of our courses in the future, we hope you are excited about what lies ahead for your creative dreams and writing goals in 2023.
Every journey begins by taking the first step and then stealing back time from your busy life to make writing a priority on a regular basis.
One book that encapsulates the importance of this message is Today Matters by John Maxwell. “We cannot be tomorrow, what we did not do today”.
You can only create a masterpiece, whether it be a short story, a novel or a film script, by making each day your creative masterpiece. This action will nourish your spirit, improve the quality of your day and is the path to future success.
“Never give up on a dream just because of the time it will take to accomplish it. The time will pass anyway,” Earl Nightingale
Last year many Writers’ Studio graduates saw their writing dreams become a reality. If your dream is to write, now is the perfect time to take the next appropriate action and start bringing your creative vision to life.
To do that, you have to overcome what is stopping you. As Stephen Pressfield says in his book, The War of Art, it is only natural that many of us encounter resistance before committing to our creative dreams.
“The more important a call to action is to our soul’s evolution,” Pressfield says, “the more Resistance we will feel about answering it. But to yield to Resistance deforms our spirit. It stunts us and makes us less than we are and were born to be.
“We can never eliminate Resistance. It never goes away. But we can outsmart it, and we can enlist allies that are as powerful as it is.
“When we conquer our fears, we discover a boundless, bottomless, inexhaustible well of passion. Start before you’re ready. Don’t prepare. Begin.”
Emma Lord
Emma, Writers’ Studio tutor and graduate, has let us know that her debut YA novel, Anomaly will be published by Affirm Press in 2024.
“This high-octane work of YA speculative fiction is filled with breathtaking action sequences, intrigue, snarky banter and romance. It will ultimately leave you questioning the power of memory and how far you would go to survive“, said Affirm’s press release.
Emma was a recipient of the 2020 Affirm Press Mentorship Award at Varuna, the National Writers’ House.
Congratulations, Emma!

Recent Course Feedback
Some snippets of the wonderful feedback that we receive back from recently completed courses. We update these each newsletter. They show what a large variety of writers get out of our writing courses.
“I have just competed my 4-Week Unlocking Creativity Course with The Writers Studio! It has really opened up my eyes to the possibilities within writing and I’ve never been more inspired to create something magical. It’s so surprising how once I stop self-doubting myself, the words begin to flow. I’ve now got a better understanding of different writing styles and the direction that I want to take with my writing. My eyes have been opened and I’m so motivated to write!! I’m super grateful for what this course has given me and definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to push the boundaries and open yourself up to what you’re really capable of.” Denzie
“I’ve loved putting pen to paper, establishing building blocks, creating a narrative and bringing scenes to life. Reading the writings of others and the positive classroom environment is inspiring in itself. I’m so much more aware of the possibilities of writing and my own self-enforced conventions. Things are going to change. The possibilities are endless.” Lucy
“My experience in this course was very profound and super enjoyable. I learnt so much and it’s done exactly what it’s named ‘Unlocking Creativity’. Super helpful if you’re stuck creatively to get those ideas flowing and allowing yourself to think freely again. No matter your goal this course caters to and helps you achieve whatever that may be to you.” Sienna
“I love the course’s practicality. The doing and practising of your writing. This course has made me believe I can execute something worthwhile.” Aaron
“What an excellent course structure. A simple path paved in gold. I love how the intensity of the timeline together with the Writer’s Board drives out creativity. I saw everyone improve, and the structure so cleverly enables a gradual build and evolution. Fabulous approach.” Amy
“What a wild 4 weeks it’s been! I’ve just completed the Unlocking Creativity online course from The Writer’s Studio (pass on the good word to the imaginary friends circle) and it might be one of the most positive experiences I’ve had in a long, long time.” Chris
