Pre-requisite: Novel & Script Third Draft Part 2 Course
During the Course, You Will:
1. Strengthen Your Writing Across the Whole Novel
By now, your writing will have improved dramatically. The next step is to apply what you’ve learned consistently across your entire manuscript.
Through ongoing feedback and rewriting between sessions, you’ll continue to hone your voice, tighten your prose and deepen the emotional engagement of your writing.
The iterative process allows you to keep learning and refining as you go, helping you bring every chapter closer to the standard of your best work.
2. Make Every Scene Serve the Whole Story
A scene can work beautifully on its own and still not be doing everything the larger story needs.
By reviewing your Chapter and Scene Summaries across entire Turning Points, you’ll be able to step back and see opportunities that aren’t always apparent when working one chapter at a time.
With feedback from your tutor, you’ll refine your pacing, strengthen character and relationship arcs, and deepen the connection between the action of your story, your characters’ emotional journeys and the themes running beneath them.
The aim is to make every scene feel like an essential part of a unified whole.
3. Integrate the Discoveries You’ve Made Along the Way
One of the great pleasures of rewriting is discovering that your story has more depth than you originally realised.
As you refine scenes and characters, new possibilities emerge. You understand your characters more deeply. Relationships change. Themes become clearer. What seemed important at the beginning of the process may take on an entirely different meaning.
The challenge is weaving those discoveries back through the entire novel.
By developing and refining Chapter Summaries across your manuscript, you’ll take an eagle-eye view of your story and, with the help of your tutor, fine-tune how all its elements work together to create a dramatic and emotionally engaging journey.
By the end of the process, you’ll have a clearer, more cohesive and more polished novel and know what you need to do to take it through the final stages of rewriting and editing.
“The real writing is actually re-writing. It’s like a piece coming into focus. It’s like a big sketched thing that just comes more and more and more into focus. I never count the number of drafts I do. It’s always dozens of drafts of each piece. It begins to become tighter, more distilled and more focused. But it is in the rewriting that everything starts to happen.” Moira Buffini, screenwriter of Jane Eyre & Byzantium
The Process
There are six sessions.
Each session runs over a 6-week cycle:
- Submit planning for a full Turning Point
- Receive two rounds of feedback to help you revise your structure
- Submit two full chapters (or the same chapter twice) for detailed tutor feedback
This rhythm allows for layered, iterative progress so each chapter, scene, and moment is doing exactly what it needs to.
This structure is not rigid. You and your tutor have the flexibility to adapt this process to ensure you get the best result.
Towards the end of the course:
You will submit updated Chapter Summaries for the whole manuscript and receive written feedback plus a final Zoom consult with your tutor.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is the live version different from the online version?
The process and outcomes are the same, but live participants attend monthly sessions alongside the Third Draft Part 2 group. These sessions give you the chance to share a chapter for peer feedback and re-engage with class exercises that often spark valuable breakthroughs. You’ll then carry those insights into your planning and revision work with your tutor.
Do I have to submit two chapters every session?
It is entirely up to you. You can submit one chapter twice – once as a full draft, then revised. Or submit two different chapters. Be guided by your tutor to work out what will best serve your story and writing.
How does this course differ from Third Draft Part 2?
Third Draft Part 2 focuses on writing forward and building confidence in your voice and prose. In the Extension Process, you will refine structure and integrate everything you’ve learned – making the story as strong as it can be before your final polish.
What if I haven’t finished my draft yet?
This all depends on what you think you need to take your story to a publishable standard. Let us know where you’re at, and we’ll help you make it work.
How much time will it take each week?
Most writers spend 4-6 hours per week planning, revising, and preparing submissions. The iterative process helps focus your energy and get more from each draft.
Is this course suitable for screenwriters?
If you’re working on a script, let us know when you enrol – we’ll pair you with a tutor experienced in screenwriting who can help adapt the process to suit your format, ensuring the structural work and feedback remain relevant and valuable for your project.
Can I continue working with the same tutor I had for Third Draft Part 2?
Yes, in most cases. We’ll do our best to match you with the same tutor if they’re available.
