Unlocking Creativity is a complete process in itself, and a prerequisite for all our writing courses. The course introduces you to the principles of fiction writing, character development and story structure. Experience the pleasure of writing creatively with a group of like-minded people.
Experience the inspiration and camaraderie of Unlocking Creativity as a ‘virtual live’ writing course from your own home. The format includes Zoom workshops that replicate the creative magic of the Live Studio experience, plus interactive writing exercises in between sessions with feedback from your tutor and fellow writers. If you miss a session you can do it online.
Our Short Story online courses are for those who have completed Unlocking Creativity and want to keep the creative process alive and further develop your writing, understanding of character and storytelling skills. Be critiqued on every exercise and story you post. The Short Story courses also offer an ideal preparation for the Novel & Script First Draft course. We offer three Short Story courses:
- Writers’ Gym – Advanced Writing Techniques
- Character Development Short Story course
- Genre Short Story course
Find and develop the story you want to write, and follow a step by step process to complete your first draft in ten months.
You will gain a deep understanding of classic story structure, enabling you to write a story that has your readers wanting to know what happens next, while taking your main character on an emotional and spiritual journey of change.
The course commences every March and September with a maximum of 20 writers per course.
Note 1: Some writers find this course gives them everything they need and choose to do further drafts on their own. However, many writers thrive on the deeper learning of the craft and choose to work through further drafts with us.
Note 2: If you are interested in writing a novel or screenplay and join the Novel & Script First Draft course directly, you will receive the prerequisite 4-Week Unlocking Creativity course complimentary.
Re-envision and re-structure your first draft to make the dramatic spine as good as it can be. Follow a systematic process to add more layers, more complexity and greater depth so that your story works dramatically and logically from beginning to end.
Transform your story by taking it to a whole new level when you get the action, character arc and theme all working together. Expect a 200 per cent improvement to your first draft.
Start focusing on learning the art and craft of writing, re-writing and editing, and have your work critiqued. See your hard work in the First and Second Draft courses pay off as you experience the thrill of having your writing come alive on the page, an extremely satisfying part of the process.
This is where you work on getting your manuscript to a publishable standard.
