For those of you embarking on your writing journey, we thank you for joining us. For writers currently working with us in our courses, we trust that you are enjoying seeing your writing and stories come alive and are experiencing the pleasure of making creativity part of your life.
The Power of the Imagination
From day one in our 4-Week Unlocking Creativity course, writers are given tools and techniques to help them tap into the power of their imagination, which we believe is the true source of creativity.
Our tutors are invariably blow away in every course we run, by just how talented people are when they get out of their own way, and their writing flows through them and comes alive on the page. Accessing the power of your imagination is a vital ingredient of all our courses.
Screenwriter and novelist Alan Watt says, “We’ve been bought up in a left brain society, trained to second guess ourselves, to be more interested in the result than the process. We tend to judge our work prematurely without giving it a chance to gestate. When our unconscious (imagination) is free to do its work, our writing often bears rich fruit.
 “One of the greatest struggles for the writer just starting out, in fact all writers is that we all, at times, feel like frauds. In a way this is a good thing because it keeps us humble. It reminds us that we are channels for our story and when we listen and inquire real truths emerge.
“When we drop our perceptions about what good writing is and give ourselves permission to write poorly, everything changes. We become a channel of the story that wants to be told through us. Our unconscious reveals the story to us. Our job is to remain curious.”
Writers in Unlocking Creativity courses discover how writing from their imagination brings their writing to life, and enables them to write in a way that makes other people want to read what they’ve written. They also experience the ‘creative high’, that comes when you write write from your imagination.
Note: When writing a novel or a screenplay, you want to set up a dance between structure and imagination, with structure expanding and stretching your imagination rather than limiting it.
