I've just finished the one month Unlocking Creativity Course Online.It was inspiring, encouraging and deeply practical.I soon found myself waking up each morning, making a cuppa and getting into the writing.The tutor gave consistently good feeback, always encouraging and insightful.I loved sharing short pieces to the Writer's Board. Other new writers gave encouraging and perceptive feedback. It was fascinating reading their stories.I've learned so much in a month and I've developed a great writing routine.I'm excited.... looking forward to the 10 month course in 2025.read more

I have now completed 3 courses with The Writers' Studio (Unlocking Creativity, First Draft (Online) and Second Draft (Online)). All courses have been amazing and truly inspiring. Most recently, I completed the Second Draft online course which has been a real eye opener and a much needed tool on my writing journey!The materials provided and regular and insightful feedback from my tutor have all been fantastic in guiding me along the process. They kept me motivated with a plan in mind rather than helplessly redrafting and editing it (as I’d spent a year between courses doing).I feel much more content that there is a coherent structure to my novel now, and better able to play further with that from here on. The course has given me confidence in my story and my story telling ability. The support from my tutor and fellow writers has all been helpful in keeping me positive and moving forward. It finally feels like a story that I would be proud to put out there and share with others.For anyone who is thinking about whether they need to do a course, I would say wholeheartedly that you should. Your work will improve tenfold, along with your confidence!read more

Almost two years ago I enrolled in your Unlocking Creativity Course and my life changed.My abilities and beliefs have indeed improved, but the greatest gift you have given me is that writing brings me joy, absolute joy!I have moved from doubt and insecurity to a place of joy and self-acceptance. This is a thoroughly enjoyable course. It’s carefully structured to take you step by step from writing a piece of 200-300 words to writing a mini story of 900. The content is well laid out and easy to follow. When you post your work, you receive an enormous amount of structured feedback both from other students and from your tutor, all of which is affirming and encouraging. Equally worthwhile is that you give a great deal of structured feedback as well, a process that teaches you how to read text in a different way. There’s no jargon, just practical advice and instructions on what makes writing engaging. Great value fir money!read more

I completed the Unlocking Creativity online course that began August 2024. I highly recommend this course and the Writers' Studio. Writers are given a supportive environment in which to practise the skills taught each week through not only writing creative pieces, but also by giving and receiving constructive feedback from course-mates and tutors alike.The exercises undertaken each week aim to level up your writing skills, regardless of your writing experience. They allow writers to experiment and tutors actively encourage participants to try new things and push the boundaries of their characters, plots, and writing skills.Tutors are easily accessible via email and are prepared to give you as much assistance as you need.Unlocking Creativity online is a course that, whilst writing to weekly deadlines, can still be easily completed with whatever your current life commitments. One of the best things about the course is the leeway given in some weeks to produce multiple pieces. The course provides the opportunity to write for however long you want be it 15 minutes or 5 hours.Unlocking Creativity, whether online or live, is a gateway course for other Writers' Studio courses. I enjoyed the Writers' Studio format of writing and feedback so much that I've signed on to complete their short story genre course.This is very much worth the financial investment if you're looking to up-skill yourself as a writer, or if you're taking your first steps into writing. I thoroughly enjoyed the 1st Draft novel and script writing course and saw my story evolve and grow along with expertise of my writer's studio course tutor. What I ended up with was not at all what I envisaged, it exceeded my expectations. The feedback was positive and with "food for thought" inspired feedback saw my imagination go into unexpected realms. Whether you aim to eventually publish or for your own satisfaction it is well worth it and I'd encourage anyone to engage in the creative process of the many courses on offer.read more

Two weeks ago I completed the four-week "Unlocking Creativity" course. I don't think I have ever been in a more motivated exciting group of people who were there with a single focus, unlocking their creative ability with pen in-hand. We were led by Richard who was a supreme conductor and developer of our ambition and our capability. It was a whirlwind experience driven by a proven platform and process. The amazing spontaneous writing shared constantly amongst the participants in a positive, stimulating environment was just one methodology which spurred us on to unleash the creative persona within us all. Three years ago I thought I'd have a go at the 4 week Unlocking Creativity Course, & here I am, about to embark on Third Draft Part 2-the final step in my online journey with The Writers Studio. And I can honestly say that this is the most challenging and fulfilling project I've ever undertaken.The story that I always knew was in my head is finally coming to life, thanks to the step by step process of the online courses.The nurturing environment of the Studio was the best fit for me as I felt safe to "put it all out there" & see what landed.The feedback & support provided by the Tutors is practical & honest, yet always encouraging. Starting my journey with the studio in 2019, I knew I had a story in me that wanted to be told, I just wasn’t sure how to tell it. I’d been writing paragraphs of junk for many years, so when I started learning about story structure, it was like a magic formula or language that finally made sense to me! This is how good stories are written. Aha! Once I got it, things started clicking – I’d be watching a movie or reading a book and suddenly seeing the story steps I’d been learning come to life. I've done Unlocking Creativity, the First Draft, and am in the middle of the Second Draft. I am a professional writer by day, but writing a novel is a whole beast of its own, and these courses have blown me away with its writing philosophy, tools, processes, and the kind of tutors you dream of having (Rich and Emily, your wisdom, generosity, passion... ENERGY! I am so grateful!). The work is incredibly practical and motivating. Spiritual even. The Second Draft, in particular, has really pushed me in the best way possible. Before all of this, I had wondered if I needed a Masters in Creative Writing. I don't. It's safe to say that the Writers' Studio is giving me the skills and confidence I need. Because I was writing in a memoir genre, I had not considered doing the 10-month Novel and Scriptwriting First Draft Online course . I'm so grateful that my tutor in one of their short courses encouraged me to enrol. Over and over again I found the structure gave extra depth and meaning to my story - as soon as I stopped thinking about it and simply 'did' the process. I can't thank The Writers' Studio enough for making the act of fiction writing finally doable (for me). I've now completed the courses Unlocking Creativity and Writers Gym. Coming from a background of analysing and critiquing literature (eight years of studying French and Spanish novels and plays), I thought I knew a good deal about what makes stories tick. Wrong! I realise I was always looking at literature from the outside. These courses have taught me the opposite - how to approach writing from the inside, looking out. This is you, the writer, creating from scratch - and sharing with your like-minded colleagues. It's a whole new ball game. Who knew the importance of anchoring your reader in a place, of focusing on the senses, of watching the light, of so many big and little things that add up to spinning a decent yarn. This is an excellent course that has given me the courage, tools and mentorship to write my first novel. The course is structured in a manageable and inspiring way and most importantly, provides the necessary accountability to sit down and write. If you have toyed with the idea of writing but never seem to find the time or courage to begin, I highly recommend booking into a course. I loved doing the Unlocking Creativity Online course at The Writers' Studio. I was really intimidated at first because I never saw myself as a writer, but it was always something I wanted to try because I love story telling. I found the course helped me to come up with stories and characters and to actually just have a go. It was the perfect way to find that person inside of me that I was too scared to show. I loved the online community, everyone was really supportive and the tutors were great and the encouragement and helping you find your way.I highly recommend this to anyone that's sitting there thinking they want to do it and maybe feel a bit hesitant. You won't regret it. I did this while working full time and found it was easy enough to balance the work load without it being a burden. I also discovered how happy it made me. When I first encountered the writing studio, joining the unlocking creativity course, I realised that I was in good hands. I am now on my second third draft part 2 and getting closer to my ultimate goal, finishing my book. Thanks to the guidance of the tutors and editors that have helped me along the way (even though English is my second language) I feel confident that I can achieve what I have set out to do. Kelly has been a guiding light and understands my book better than I do. Her suggestions always make sense. It feels good to know that if I lose my way and get off script, or do too much telling, she will pull me back on the right track before it is too late and save me a lot of re-writing.I could not be where I am today without the writing studio.read more

I have just recently completed the Unlocking Creativity course.To say it was inspiring and absolutely brilliant would be a vast understatement!I am an anxious person by nature but I found that the online environment created by my fellow writers and my tutor helped to create a safe place to grow and learn the craft of writing and was truly wonderful.I’m so glad I finally pushed myself to just ‘do it!’ I know I’ll never regret listening to that voice that said to just give it a go.I’ve learnt so much! Giving a voice to that one part of me that I spent so long squashing or convincing myself I’d eventually get around to. But the time is now! And I’m here. I know it will be hard work but I’m not afraid of that. I spent my entire life rebuilding myself from the ground up and this course has just added a few more bricks to the foundation of who I want to be. June 2023 has turned out to be one of the best months of my life. I signed up for the ‘Unlocking Creativity' writing course at the Writer’s Studio in Bronte. Oh, what a game-changer!! In a matter of just 4 weeks, I’m amazed how I’ve gone from no writing to writing at least 15+ fiction scenes. I am so glad I did this course. The Writers' Studio took me from noodling in notebooks to writing several short stories that I was happy to share with others. The step by step guidance was peppered with insightful information and snippets of inspiration. The ‘Unlocking Creativity' course quickly moved me beyond my initial fears and got my imagination off and running. A few months later I returned to do the 'Short Story - Genre' course and learnt the defining qualities of several popular genres.The ‘writers board’ was an invaluable feature providing interaction with tutors and fellow writers in a friendly environment. I found it illuminating to give and receive structured feedback. The class tutor Helen was excellent. It’s been inspirational to see my fellow writers grow and it’s pushed me to keep up. Everybody’s writing has been astonishingly enjoyable to read, it’s amazing to think about how many talented writers are out there. I still have a lot of work ahead of me but the infectious positivity from my tutor and fellow writers has motivated me to keep hammering away!I think the most important thing I’ve learned during my time here is to keep things fun.
