Welcome to our June Newsletter.

We are very pleased to have welcomed a new intake of Unlocking Creativity writers into our Bronte studio who have just completed their first session. It is always inspiring to see writers tap into their creativity and the power of their imagination and see their writing take off. Everyone left on a high.

For many writers, writing a novel or screenplay is the most rewarding creative journey of all and we are delighted to see some great stories emerging from the current courses. By following a step-by-step process, most writers experience a transformation in their approach to creativity and see their writing and stories evolve beyond their expectations.

Process saves us from the poverty of our intentions.” – Seth Godin.

The next Unlocking Creativity Online course starts on June 14. Most writers are delighted to experience how the act of writing nourishes their spirit as they tap into the highest part of themselves.

The art is in the doing. As Joyce Carole Oates said, “One must be pitiless about this matter of mood. In a sense, writing will create the mood. Generally, I’ve found this to be true. I have forced myself to begin writing when I’ve been utterly exhausted, when I’ve felt my soul as thin as a playing card, when nothing has seemed worth enduring for another five minutes… and somehow the activity of writing changes everything.”

The next 10-Month Novel & Script Online course starts on June 19. One of the great things about writing a novel or screenplay is that you not only take your characters and readers on a journey, but you also take yourself on one. As John Truby says, “Write about something that will change your life, it is the best gift you can give yourself.”

The Writers' Studio

10-Month First Draft Online course.

Starts June 19, a few spots left!

We still have a few spots in our upcoming First Draft Novel & Script Online course commencing June 19th.

This course will help you write the best story you are capable of, while having fun along the way.

Designed for people working full time, this course provides a step-by-step process that breaks the writing of your first draft into manageable bite-sized chunks. It is suitable for both people who have a clear story idea and those who are starting with a blank canvas.

“I always knew I wanted to write a book, but the idea of a framework made me more confident to start the journey. My tutors were my cheerleaders throughout the process. The course gave me a great insight into the classic novel structure, with great hints, tools and suggestions along the way, and the all-important accountability.”

Maya Linnell – She recently published her fifth novel, Kookaburra Cottage, with Allen & Unwin.

In this sparkling romantic dramedy, Sydney socialite Daisy (Rebecca Gibney, Winter) and former London lawyer Louis (Charles Edwards, The Crown) continue to operate Oakley Winery, the struggling New Zealand vineyard they jointly inherited. But the course to good wine—and to true love—never runs smooth.

Louis is still hoping to save his marriage, and any chance of romance between the two unlikely partners in wine further sours when Daisy meets David (Kirk Torrance, Outrageous Fortune), a handsome local doctor. Daisy’s lovesick bestie, movie star Griff (Dean O’Gorman, The Hobbit trilogy), is trying to repair his own relationship with handyman Gus (Simon Mead). Meanwhile, rival winery Shimmering Lake hires a rock star French vintner, who happens to be Tippy’s (Trae Te Wiki) distant cousin. He wants to mentor Oakley’s young winemaker, but can he be trusted?

“A charming sun-kissed comedy drama” – The Sun (UK)

Recent Course Feedback

Some snippets of the wonderful feedback that we receive back from recently completed courses. We update these each newsletter. They show what a large variety of writers get out of our writing courses

“I’ve recently completed the 4-Week Unlocking Creativity course in Bronte and I have felt supported and encouraged from the first session. The positivity the group creates is something very special. I feel much more confident and better equipped to be able to put my thoughts, feelings and ideas onto paper and would highly recommend giving it a go!”

“The learning unfolds in an exceptionally simple way, with each week building on the next.”

Alex B

“I really enjoyed it. I can see how satisfying writing can be, and how much work goes into writing a novel or script. I will never again take for granted how much work goes into publishing something. Writing is very time consuming and can feel like torture, to get started, and then once you get going you can get into a flow and it can be very soothing. I really enjoyed this experience. Thank you.”

Belinda H

“What a ride it has been! I feel tired now, having finished the course so early, but honestly I just felt compelled to keep writing. It may seem a bit corny, but this course is among the best things I’ve done in my life to date. Thanks for the opportunity!”

Kerrie M

“Kelly has been a great tutor. She has provided comprehensive and clear feedback and taken the time to explore that with me. I have appreciated her honesty about my work – I don’t want a wishy-washy response; I want clear critique and guidance. I felt all along that I was tapping into the mind of a specialist. Thanks, Kelly, you were wonderful!”
