Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy
At The Writers’ Studio, our focus has always been the creative relationship between writer and tutor, and the vibrant peer-to-peer learning that happens inside our courses. We embrace new technologies where they genuinely support the writing process, but we are equally committed to protecting the integrity of our programs, the privacy of our students, and the development of each writer’s authentic voice.
To ensure every writer receives the personal support they expect, we have a clear policy regarding the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
1. Your work is private and always treated with respect
We never share your writing with third-party AI tools without your explicit permission.
Participants must not upload another participant’s writing, tutor feedback or The Writers’ Studio course materials into any AI tool without explicit permission from the copyright holder.
Many AI services, particularly free versions, may use submitted content to train their models or retain that content for other purposes.
Protecting your creative work, intellectual property and personal information is central to our values and aligns with emerging best practice across publishing, education and editorial services.
2. All tutor feedback is written by real people
When you enrol with us, you receive thoughtful, personalised feedback from experienced tutors who read and respond to your work as human readers, mentors, and storytellers.
Our tutors do not use AI to generate feedback. You are paying for genuine human insight, judgement and encouragement, and that is exactly what you will receive.
3. AI-generated feedback and writing are not permitted
Many of our courses include group work where participants exchange feedback with one another. These peer comments are a vital part of the learning process. They strengthen your craft, sharpen your instincts, and help you see your writing from the reader’s perspective.
For this reason, participants must not use AI to generate feedback for other writers or submit AI-generated writing as part of their coursework, unless explicitly permitted by their tutor for a specific exercise.
This policy exists because AI-generated feedback and writing:
- undermine the authenticity of the learning experience
- deprive both the giver and receiver of genuine insight
- weaken the collaborative, human-centred environment our courses are built upon
- diminish the opportunity to develop your own creative judgment and writing voice.
We want every writer to receive feedback that reflects another writer’s honest reading, not an AI’s imitation of one.
4. We monitor for AI-generated feedback and writing
We recognise that AI detection tools are not infallible. However, we do monitor for signs of AI-generated writing and feedback.
Where concerns arise, our first step is always to have a conversation with the participant. AI technology is evolving rapidly, and our goal is to educate and support writers while protecting the integrity of the learning environment.
Our policy exists to preserve a learning environment built on trust, authenticity, mutual respect, and the belief that writers grow most through genuine human engagement with their own work and the work of others.
5. Your creative voice comes first
Nothing replaces the human imagination or the personal exchange between writers. Our mission is to help you uncover, strengthen, and refine your authentic writing and storytelling voice, not to outsource it to a machine.
Publishing is becoming flooded with AI-generated content. As a result, authentic voices, original thinking and genuine human insight are becoming even more valuable. Our courses are designed to help you develop those qualities, because they remain the foundation of meaningful writing.
