Prerequisite: Second Draft Novel & Script.
The Third Draft Screenwriting Online course provides a step-by-step process for scriptwriters who have completed our First and Second Draft Novel & Script courses.
It is designed to take your screenplay to a point where you are in a position to submit your script to producers and Government funding bodies.
Before writing your screenplay in a script format, you follow a process to first write an extended treatment that details your story from beginning to end. This treatment is usually between 60 and 90 pages. The extended treatment ensures that you have thought through and developed all the action of your story, backstory, character motivation arcs and the world of your story dramatically and logically. This makes the actual writing of your script much easier.
Once you have written your extended treatment, you then condense this to write a 10-to-20 page treatment that encapsulates the essence of your story so that the reader can see the movie in their imagination. The treatment will include the Title, Logline and Synopsis.
This is what Producers will read to determine if your screenplay is a project they wish to read in full, and/or purchase. It is essentially your marketing tool, and perhaps the most important component in selling your screenplay.
You then write the opening 20-30 pages in script format. The condensed treatment and the opening 20-30 pages is what you submit to funding bodies and/or directors and producers. This is similar to the process followed by many film makers and television producers and we believe gives you the best chance of success.
