THIRD DRAFT NOVEL AND SCRIPT COURSE - 12
MONTHS
Writing
is very much about re-writing. This is where you will do extensive
re-writing and editing and make your writing and story come alive
on the page for the reader.
The
Process
The first draft
is where you find your characters and story.
The second draft is where you nail it down from top to bottom so that
the story, character journey and theme work as a cohesive whole.
The
third draft is where you focus on the writing and make every scene
work for your reader.
Aim
of the course
Take
a great second draft and turn into a
terrific third draft.
In every class you will get detailed feedback on your writing from your

on the page.

HOW
THE COURSE WORKS
The Third Draft Course is the most hands-on of all the courses. Before
each class you will send 1,500 words in a word document to Roland and
your fellow group members.
Roland
and your fellow writers will read and analyse your work before class
and give you detailed feedback in class.
By
the end of each class you'll have lots of detailed feedback to work
from. This will give you a clear idea and specific guidelines of what
works, what doesn't and what needs to be done to take your work the
best it can be.
You
will then take the suggestions and re-write the piece at home and it
will be reviewed again in depth, following the same process. You'll
be amazed at how much your story and everyone else's improves during
this process.
Please
note. Before you give your work to an agent, publisher or producer you
need to make your story as good as it possibly can be.
The
third draft is where you really learn the craft of writing. The power
of critical feedback is incredible.
However, please bear in mind that the process does take time to master.
By the end of the 12 months, your story may well need more work before
it is ready to submit for publication. Depending
on the nature of your story, your experience as a writer and your time
commitments, the above process can take varying lengths of time.
Excellence is a commitment to completion.
By
the end of the course,you
may not necessarily workshop every scene in your story in class, but
you will have found your voice and be given detailed feedback about
exactly what you need to do to make your story as good as it can be
and what you learn from the feedback will inform all your writing.
"The art of writing is the art of re-writing. Success depends on
attitude and patience as you take it one step at a time. So much of writing
is about re-writing, I never get it right the first few times. I'm of
the school that it's in the re-writes that the story is born. It's a
refiner's craft. As territorial as we are it is important to be challenged.” Tina

Lucas
Welsh, who completed his third draft, online.
"I cannot stress how important this process was, nor can I express how highly I valued Alex's input. His linguistic skills were evident immediately, and with a few comments and suggestions, a section I once considered gripping seemed dull and tepid after I had transformed it into an irresistible collection of words conveying sounds, sights and smells the reader could connect easily with. I could not have done such transformation without Alex's insights and help. His detailed commentary and mark up of my work again left me with the glowing feeling that I had 100% of his attention. The end result is a book. My book! Not long ago, this was just a spark of an idea in my mind.
A spark which Roland, Alex and Andrew and the Writers' Studio team nurtured and guided to help me write a book which stretched my abilities well beyond what they were capable of at the outset. Now armed with confidence, I know I couldn't have written a book of this quality without their help.
Not only that, but Roland, Alex and Andrew have expertly guided my online course in such a way that I'm not timid about throwing it to the lions of the publishing world - I can cast my work out into the world knowing that I couldn't have given myself a better shot at success." |
