THE JOY AND FREEDOM OF A WRITING PROCESS

We’ve always believed the key to writing fiction is to have a process. It is the key to making writing fun and enabling you to realise your creative potential. Everything flows from finding a process that works for you.

In her book about writing, Write Away, the best selling American crime fiction author, Elizabeth George, mirrors these beliefs.

She says, "Every writer has to develop his or her own  process. One that will work time and time again.

Having no process is like having no craft. It leaves you dangling out there over the abyss, a potential victim of writer’s block.

Having no process puts you at enormous risk because writing becomes a threat instead of a joy, something you are terrified to begin each day because you are at the mercy of a muse that you do not understand how to beckon.

If I had no process and no craft to fall back on, I would be paralysed with fear every morning, and quite frankly, I see no fun in that.

Because I have both process and craft to guide me, I approach each day with anticipation, joy and delight.

Really."

We’ve seen this time and time again with writers who have learnt to develop a process with which to write.

The writer discovers they have more talent than they ever imagined and discover that writing becomes like soul food, a source of great joy.
