MANUSCRIPT ASSESMENT SERVICE

Alex Gilly is our manuscript assessor and Third Draft online tutor. He has translated four books from French to English, has a degree in linguistics and is doing an MA, been a reader for Harper Collins and has completed an editing course at UTS. The people he has worked with have loved his input and said it really helped take their stories to another level.

The feedback he gives includes:

Structural feedback on what is and isn't working in terms of story, voice and character.

A thorough copy edit, bearing in mind your target audience. This includes punctuation, spelling, style and syntax. By the time he has gone through your work it will be very polished, ready to go to an agent or publisher.

Sophie Bouris, who has worked with Alex on her novel, said
"I've got a far greater chance of being published thanks to Alex Gilly and the Writer's Studio. It is a wonderful inner freedom to know that every corner of the story has been investigated to the best of our ability. Alex has certainly allowed this to happen for me in a way that I don't believe would have happened without his help. When you re-read your edited work it runs so much more smoothly and one is tempted to think that the edits were obvious but without any doubt there is huge skill involved. I would strongly recommend anyone who loves writing to embrace this process for their final draft to produce the best work they can and to get as much out of the process as is possible."

Lucas Welch , who has worked with Alex on his novel online, said

I cannot stress how important this process was, no can I express how highly I valued Alex's input.  His linguistic skills were evident immediately, and with a few comments and suggestions, a section I once considered gripping seemed dull and tepid after I had transformed it into an irresistible collection of words conveying sounds, sights and smells the reader could connect easily with.  I could not have done such transformation without Alex's insights and help.  His detailed commentary and mark up of my work again left me with the glowing feeling that I had 100% of his attention.  The end result is a book.  My book!  Not long ago, this was just a spark of an idea in my mind.

Fee for the service is $1,000 for up to 50,000 words.

If you have less than 50,000 words or more than that, the fee is worked out on the basis of $100 per 5,000 words. However, the minimum feel is $250.
