Unlocking Creativity Online

Unlocking Creativity is a totally practical course. You will follow a step-by-step process and learn tools and techniques that will dramatically improve the quality of your writing and your ability to tell a story. You will be guided every step of the way.

All of the course content is on the internet and can be only accessed by password. You will not need any course materials sent to you.

Once you have enrolled, you will be sent an email one day before the course commences with information as to how to access the Online Course Materials and Writers' Board on the site. You can then work from the internet directly or download the materials at your convenience.

The materials and content are identical to the live course. Each week you will work through a series of steps, which will give you information and tools and techniques to use when writing. You will then do specific daily exercises that are designed to put the tools and techniques you're learning each week into practice.

You will be contacted each week by your online tutor, via the email, to monitor your progress. And you can email your tutor at any time regarding any problems or questions that may arise for you during the course.

Once you've done the exercises you can post them on your class Writers' Board (a secure site) where you will give and receive feedback. Your online tutor will give you feedback twice a week. The feedback is a great source of inspiration and a way of developing your writing. The first step to becoming a better writer is to become a better reader.

The Writers' Board enables you to read all your participants' work, the live and online writers, as well as all the feedback. You will enjoy the fun of being instantly published and enjoy the support and stimulation of being part of an online Writers' Community.

You can move through the course at your own speed. However, it is advisable to do Week 1 in Week 1 and not fall behind. The Online course will finish one week after the last published date of the live course and the site will then be closed to you.

The time required for writing per day is ten to fifteen minutes. The whole process from reading your lessons, writing your exercises and then posting them onto fhe Writers' Board and giving feedback should take around thirty minutes a day, five times a week. It is by doing a little every day and forming a writing habit that one becomes a writer.

Testimonials for the Online Unlocking Creativity Course

"Well, I've made it to the end, but in my heart I know this is only the beginning.

Writers are people who write and I have learnt this now by getting into the habit of turning up at the page. Unlocking Creativity has shown me how to do this by breathing, focusing and letting go. When I do this it's as if I go into a zone. I come to a place where the words find their way on to the page bringing the image I carry in my mind to life. It takes practice, time and commitment for me to do this but this course has taught me how, and supported me well on the way, for which I am truly grateful. My thanks go to Andrew for his guidance, his insights and encouragement. I also say a big thank you to all my fellow writers whose work has been fascinating and inspiring and whose feedback so supportive. It has made a big difference in sitting down to write, knowing that I have been a part of this community and I will miss it very much.

This has been such an exciting adventure, not only in inviting me to bring out the best in my writing but also in bringing out the best in myself. Turning up at the page is a bit like life. You turn up, you write one sentence, and then another. In life you live a moment, another, and then one more, - as truthfully as you can, staying open to all it brings you." Peter

"Have just finished posting the last exercise of the course, I don't want it to be the last, I want to go on. I live quite a disciplined life when it comes to undertaking lessons of self expression but find discipline serves me better when I have deadlines and commitment and other people to consider. I am always a better student when I have a class to attend. I guess this is a pivotal point for me as one of the foremost lessons I have learnt from this course is that discipline takes discipline that is all. If you want to write you must simply write, much like any of my other artistic pursuits.

Self expression is vital to me, I have no choice but to express, other wise I would simply be repressed and that, I believe, leads to anger and destruction. I teach and study a very old martial art. It is merely about self expression. I teach my students to enjoy coming to class each week and making noise and stomping their feet, expressing themselves physically. People have sometimes said to me, why do you do this and that, my reply is simply because I have to, I have no choice. Thankyou each and all for participating in this course with me, all of the feedback I have received has touched my heart and lifted me up and I cannot thank you all enough for that.

Writing, like all creative pursuits merely needs to be pure, unrestrained unconscious expression, free from judgement and criticism. I have learnt a great lesson in allowing the words to flow and not trying to edit a first draft, just write and write away, do not censor, do not limit, allow the story to unfold unguided. I have also learnt that there is no such thing as writers block. There is only laziness and fear. All that is needed to start writing at anytime, anywhere, is a pencil, a piece of paper and a word, a sentence or an image, shit!, how easy is that? Thank you all again, and especially to you Andrew, our tour guide on this ride." Sean

"If I had just one word to describe the course it would be revealing. I feel the blanket of mystery surrounding 'how to be a writer' has been lifted, and underneath there are no magic potions or secret passwords, just a pen and a piece of paper that is waiting to be written on.

The challenge to write and keep writing has been fun and insightful, I have been pleased and surprised by what has come out when I have let go of inhibitions. It has also been a wonderful experience to allow my writing &endash; which I usually deem personal &endash; out into public domain. I have been touched by the generous feedback &endash; it is a very powerful thing to feel encouragement and reassurance.

I have really enjoyed reading everyone else's work and becoming familiar with individual styles. They say to write well you have to read well, and I have learned a lot from what I have read, not to mention being thoroughly entertained.

The ending of the course makes me feel like a young girl who is setting out on a journey into a new world. The online unlocking creativity course has played the role of big brother who has held my hand, led me to the train station and made sure I got to the right platform. How far I get along this journey is now up to me … but I will certainly miss big brother and the rest of the family!" Natalie
